Get Organized

Organization is what you do before you do something, so that when you do it, it is not all mixed up. A.A. Milne

This might be your first year or your 21st year in school administration but one thing is for sure, you have to keep learning and adjusting to stay ahead of the curve. As technology, curriculum and theories evolve, there are a few things that stay constant for success; organization, communication and a positive culture.

The start of the school year is hectic. You have so much to do and not enough time to get it all done. Staff meetings, back to school night, mandatory videos and bears, oh my! You realize that you’ve waited too long to start on your "Beginning of the Year” items and now you’re freaked. Don’t worry, I got you. ;)

To have a successful school year, you have to know what you are doing. Before I start a new school year, I map out and plan the big things prior to August. Big items include: SIT meetings, BLT meetings, fire drills, admin meetings, tentative walk throughs, ect. along with the usual SITE council meetings, PT conferences, family nights, ect. It was a joke among my staff that “I don’t micromanage, but...” They knew what this meant. It meant that am overly organized so that the school year runs smoother. By preparing early, I had more time later for those little fires that come up.
